The top-ranked team of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will face a team that is not rated in the competition in the WTA Doubles finals at the 2023 Mutua Madrid Open.
A doubles championship will be at stake when they compete against the duo of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Victoria Azarenka,
who have advanced through the competition to this point. Pegula had the longest run of anyone in this group,
making it all the way to the quarterfinals before losing in three sets. She now hopes to end the competition as a champion in today's WTA Doubles Finals alongside Gauff.
In the semifinals, Taylor Townsend and Leylah Fernandez were defeated by Haddad Maia and Azarenka in three sets (6-4, 0-6, 10-6).
Pegula and Gauff advanced to the finals by defeating Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Marta Kostyuk, an unseeded duo, in the quarterfinals (7-5, 7-6 (7-5)) in a tight match.
