In an Instagram post celebrating 33 years of recovery, Rob Lowe thanked God for his life and offered advice to addicts. he wrote:

The actor claimed “if you want it, and are willing to work for it,” addiction can be overcome. Rob Lowe's sobriety is all the more astounding because every year (and even every day) is deserving of recognition for someone battling this kind of struggle.

Many of The West Wing's famous pals and co-stars congratulated him. Kristin Chenoweth sent two heart emoticons, Kate Walsh applauded, and Mario Lopez sent multiple fire emojis.
