Packers shocking demands in Aaron Rodgers deal to Jets exposed

Everyone knew Aaron Rodgers would join the New York Jets. Rodgers announced on the Pat McAfee Show that he would be a Jet 43 days before the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets reached a contract.

This was a tough trade discussion. How do you value an older quarterback who won't play more than one year for one team? Both organizations had leverage

the Jets knew Rodgers wouldn't approve a trade to another team, and the Packers knew the Jets needed him.

The Packers demanded a large selection pick return to trade Rodgers, so the clubs negotiated for weeks.

In Monday's "Daily Cover" piece about Aaron Rodgers trade negotiations, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer claimed,

"The Packers first wanted a return in the vicinity of what Detroit got for Matthew Stafford in 2021 (two firsts and a third).

Since they weren't sure Rodgers would play more than a year, the Jets didn't want to give up two first-round picks.

The previous blockbuster quarterback deal between these two franchises was led by Jets owner Woody Johnson and Packers president Mark Murphy.
