McCarthy's debt limit deal has far-right members threatening a "reckoning."

Conservative members are threatening to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy over their displeasure with their agreement with President Biden to raise the debt ceiling.

The Freedom Caucus member from Texas, Rep. Chip Roy, was even more direct: "The Republican conference right now has been torn asunder," he declared.

Roy claimed there was a "breach" in the framework put in place by House Republicans following the vote in January to elect McCarthy as speaker.

Without mentioning the speaker by name, he vowed to oppose the new compromise bill and concluded: "No matter what happens, there is going to be a reckoning."

Any one House member may propose a resolution to dismiss the House speaker under a rule McCarthy agreed to in January as an accommodation to his conservative detractors.
