Matthew McConaughey Leaves 'Yellowstone'

After months of rumors, Matthew McConaughey has been cast in his own Yellowstone spinoff. The McConaughey-led extension would go regardless of whether Yellowstone actor Kevin Costner returns, according to Paramount Media Networks CEO Chris McCarthy.

McCarthy told The Hollywood Reporter that he and Taylor Sheridan are working on close to a dozen ideas.

Yellowstone Season Five's pause before the new year set the stage for a Dutton family clash. We didn't realize a Dutton family standoff was happening in real life.

Costner and Sheridan were rumored to be fighting behind the scenes about rigorous shooting schedules, and Costner may not return. No filming has been announced for Yellowstone Season Five.

"Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time," Paramount said in February.

"Thanks to Taylor Sheridan's brilliant mind, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built."

Paramount+'s Yellowstone spinoffs, 1883 and 1923, are popular. While Peacock owns Yellowstone's streaming rights, these episodes draw users to Paramount+.

That's why Paramount+ doesn't show Yellowstone. If you're a Paramount executive, it's sensible to explore a McConaughey spinoff while the Yellowstone series is on hold. Season Five fans don't appear to mind moving on to something new.

Kevin Costner is still wanted by Paramount to finish it. Last week in Los Angeles, Keith Cox, Paramount Network's head of development and production, said the network is "very confident [Costner]’s going to continue with our show.
