At BottleRock Napa Valley 2023, Keanu Reeves reunited with Dogstar. For the first time in over 20 years, The Matrix star played bass with the band.
Robert Mailhouse advised Reeves before performing live.
He was really optimistic. He said, "Listen to the music." He told the San Francisco Chronicle, "Just be present in the song, and it will go from there."
Dogstar was created in 1991 when Reeves and Mailhouse met at a supermarket. Mailhouse plays drums and percussion, while Reeves plays bass and sings support.
A year later, lead guitarist and vocalist Gregg Miller joined the band. In 1995, he left the band. Bret Domrose joined the band in 1994 as a guitarist and vocalist, but after Miller left, he became lead singer.
Reeves recently discussed rejoining with Dogstar and how much he missed performing with them.
“I missed writing, performing, and playing together. Reeves told Billboard, "I've always missed it." “We stopped playing, and I missed it...
It was like, "Okay, let's make this happen" once we started playing and it felt fantastic, optimistic, and creative.
Dogstar is also working on a new album, with Reeves saying, “I think all three of us just said, ‘Well, if we’re going to do this, let’s make a record.’”
