Yellowstone co-creator and director Taylor Sheridan chose to terminate the program after the fifth season, according to Deadline on February 6.
According to the publication, the decision was taken because Kevin Costner wanted to shoot the last six episodes in one week.
According to Deadline, Paramount Network "declined" his proposal in favor of a new Yellowstone spinoff starring Matthew McConaughey to cancel the original series.
Soon after, Paramount Network issued a statement refuting Kevin's claimed departure from Yellowstone because his rumored request created "frustration" and "morale problems" with the rest of the group.
"There's nothing new to report," a Paramount Network spokeswoman told Deadline. "Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone, and we hope that will continue for a long time."
He told Puck News that the impression that Kevin was only available to work on the second half of Yellowstone's fifth season for one week was a falsehood.
