Heather Armstrong, a mommy blogger known to fans as Dooce, passed away at age 47.

Heather Armstrong, a trailblazing mommy blogger who openly discussed her problems as a mother and her struggles with depression and alcoholism on her website Dooce.com and on social media, passed away at the age of 47.

Pete Ashdown, Armstrong's boyfriend, confirmed to The Associated Press that Armstrong committed suicide after discovering her there on Tuesday evening.

Armstrong had been sober for more than 18 months, according to Ashdown, but had recently relapsed. He didn't give any more information.

Armstrong founded Dooce in 2001 and developed it into a successful career. She had two children with her ex-husband and business partner, Jon Armstrong.

She was a pioneering and well-known mommy blogger who wrote openly about her kids, relationships, and other struggles.

She turned her blog, Instagram, and other accomplishments into book sales and released a memoir in 2009 called "It Sucked and Then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita."

Armstrong had an appearance on Oprah and was named one of the most powerful women in media by Forbes.

The Armstrongs made their separation public in 2012. Later that year, they got divorced. Nearly six years ago, she started dating Ashdown, a former U.S. senate candidate.

They shared a residence with Leta, 19, and Marlo, 13, Armstrong's kids. He lived with them as well as his three children from a previous marriage.
