Tom Holland and Dwayne Johnson are speaking up about their own struggles with mental illness. The Spider-Man: No Way Home actor has been open about the value of mental health.
Holland announced in August 2022 that he was quitting social media because he had "spiraled" from reading harsh remarks about him on digital networks.
Holland recently admitted that filming his new Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room has taken a mental toll on him.
"I'm no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action-movie thing," he told EW. "But the mental aspect really beat me up, and it took me a long time to recover and sort of get back to reality."
Holland admitted that it was tough for him to separate himself from the character he played in the series, which led to him having "a bit of a meltdown at home and thinking like,
'I'm going to shave my head.'" I need to shave my head in order to free myself of this character.' And, obviously,
we were in the middle of a shoot, so I opted not to... It was unlike anything I'd ever seen or felt before."
The actor acknowledges his co-star Sasha Lane for assisting him in getting through some difficult times, as well as speaking with professionals who have given him the abilities to "recognize triggers" and "things that stress me out."
