Wednesday, there was quite a scene on the Chicago River.A couple of people who were out enjoying the warm weather and sunshine saw a giant snapping turtle doing the same thing.
He had the nickname "Chonkasaurus," and he was relaxing in the water on some rocks and a big chain.
Joey Santore posted a video of Chonkasaurus on Twitter and wrote, "Great to see this beast living here on what was once such a toxic river, but is slowly getting cleaned up and restored.
Up the river from here, someone also put a lot of native plants. I have no idea what this thing has been eating."
Santore said he saw the turtle on the North Branch of the Chicago River near Goose Island.
Turtles that snap can weigh more than 20 lbs. They were born in Illinois, and you can find them all over the state.
