Cardinals win season opener 3-0 behind Liberatore's five scoreless innings.

In his season debut, Matthew Liberatore pitched five scoreless innings and Paul DeJong homered to lead the St. Louis

Cardinals to a 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.

After a start of 10–24, St. Louis' record currently stands at 8–10.

After three straight wins, Milwaukee has lost two.

St. Louis, which won the division last season, added a run-scoring hit from Nolan Arenado.

Liberatore stated his goal is consistency. “I’ve done that this year and I’ll continue.”

In 95 pitches, 23-year-old left-hander Liberatore (1-0) allowed three hits. He left after walking Willy Adames to start the sixth and striking out six.

Liberatore returned from Triple-A Memphis Tuesday. He returned to the majors on Oct. 5, 2022, at Pittsburgh.
