'1883' Star Isabel May Cast in Terrifying New Thriller

Elsa Dutton is leaving the Great Plains for today. Lionsgate's Sunflower thriller will feature Isabel May and Jurnee Smollett. Misha Green, who wrote the picture, directs it.

Little is known about the film, including May and Smollett's roles. According to Deadline, "two women struggle to escape from a deranged college professor

who holds them hostage on a remote sunflower farm." The film is being rushed by Lionsgate. Lionsgate's Meredith Wieck and Aaron Edmonds will manage the movie, which Green wrote and produced with Craig Flores.

"Sunflower was the first script I sold when I landed in Hollywood, and now having the opportunity to make it my first feature directorial outing feels like kismet,"

Green said in January when the project was announced. "Nathan, the Lionsgate team, Craig, and Jurnee helped me shepherd it to the big screen."

Green and Smollett worked collaborated on HBO Max's Lovecraft Country. Lovecraft Country, produced by J.J. Abrams's

Bad Robot and Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, was based on Matt Ruff's novel and followed Atticus Black as he searches for his father in 1950s Jim Crow America with his uncle and buddy.

May is well known for her breakout role as Elsa Dutton, the eldest daughter of James and Margaret Dutton, in 1883, Paramount+'s Yellowstone prequel.

She narrates Sheridan's 1923 Western drama. Her film credits include I Want You Back, The Moon & Back, Run Hide Fight, and Let's Scare Julie, as well as Netflix's Alexa & Katie and CBS' Young Sheldon.
