New Netflix record for Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother
The release of Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother on Netflix last week has already set a record for the streaming service.
According to information provided by Netflix’s Top 10 website, the film was viewed for 83.71 million hours during its opening weekend. (The website provides statistics for the week of May 8 to May 14, but The Mother was only released on May 12)
This number has shattered the record for Netflix’s largest first weekend in 2023, surpassing the 65.92 million viewing hours Luther: The Fallen Sun amassed during its debut weekend in February.
If you haven’t yet seen the assassin thriller, you may be curious about its quality. The review of the film by Digital Spy concluded that it was a very excellent, if slightly silly, piece of action.
Our review states, “Lopez, who rarely receives the acting recognition she deserves, is extremely watchable as the resourceful, protective, and even brutal (she hits people with a fist wrapped in barbed wire!) heart of the film, and her scenes with screen daughter Paez are also enjoyable and unsentimental.”
Although we could have used a bit more scene-chewing from a menacing Joseph Fiennes, this film is Lopez’s from beginning to end.
Recently, lopez has been both personally and professionally successful. In addition to having a successful film under her credit, she also rekindled her romance with Ben Affleck and married him last year.
“I would say we learned our lesson the first time,” she said, comparing their first and second opportunities at love. “To regard it as holy…
“There is a sense in which, certainly, we are together. However, there is a part of it that is not as open as it was when we were youthful and in love many years ago.”
The Mother is currently streamable on Netflix.
